A 33-year-old man has been reported missing after the car he was reversing fell into an 85-foot deep sea at Chennai Harbour on Tuesday. The man, Mohammed Shahi, a resident of Kodungaiyur, was working as a temporary driver for a coast guard officer. 

The rescue personnel immediately started the operation but efforts to find the missing driver has been unsuccessful. However, they have recovered the car. In the incident, a naval personnel reportedly escaped with injuries.

The rescue team included over 30 Coast Guard personnel, 20 firefighters, scuba divers, and port police.

The Coast Guard officer Kanda reportedly escaped by breaking the windshield of the car and swimming to safety. Afterward, the officer fainted. Meanwhile, Shahi allegedly remained trapped as the vehicle sank to a depth of 85 feet.

The search, which continued for over two hours on Tuesday night, was hindered by poor visibility and the presence of rocks beneath the water. Authorities suspect that Shahi might have become trapped among the rocks, reported Times of India.

Officer Kanda was transported to the Army Hospital in St. Thomas Mount for medical treatment following the incident. Rescue operations resumed on Wednesday morning as teams worked tirelessly to locate the missing driver.
