Seamer Chris Jordan became the first England man to pick up a T20I hat-trick, achieving the landmark during the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match against the United States in Barbados on Sunday.
Jordan achieved the remarkable feat in the 19th over of the US innings where he bagged four wickets, starting with the dismissal of Corey Anderson. After a dot delivery, Jordan proceeded to clean up Ali Khan and trap Nosthush Kenjige leg-before before castling Saurabh Netravalkar for the hat-trick.
Jordan’s hat-trick is the third of the ongoing T20 World Cup behind Australia’s Pat Cummins who achieved the feat twice in successive games against Bangladesh and Afghanistan in the Super 8s. This is only the second edition where three hat-tricks have been recorded since the 2021 tournament in the United Arab Emirates.
The United States shockingly lost five wickets in six deliveries, falling from 115 for five to all out at the same score. It is only the third in all men’s T20Is that have five wickets have fallen at the same score.
Jordan is also only the second bowler after Ireland’s Curtis Campher to record four wickets in an over in T20 World Cup history.
