IND vs AUS: Michael Vaughan on Australian bowling attack: That quartet…greatest bowling quartet of all time | Cricket News

Border Gavaskar Trophy: Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Nathan Lyon have picked up 1430 wickets together. They have been a formidable force both in home Tests and away Tests. Australia did have had attacks with some remarkable players in the past however, former England cricketer Michael Vaughan would say this is the best quartet of bowlers he has seen playing for the side. “That quartet you could argue is Australia’s greatest bowling quartet of all time,” Vaughan said speaking on SEN 1170 Mornings.

The one thing that makes the attack tick is the diversity of the three fast bowlers from one another. “Starc is a left-armer who slings the ball and gets swing and reverse swing. Hazlewood looks to hit the pitch hard and maybe get a bit of away movement from the right-handers. Cummins tends to angle the ball into the right-handers and angle the ball across the left-handers. They are the main differences; they all bowl at a very good pace and are all very tall. They all have slightly different trajectories and they create difficult situations for the opposite batters,” Pakistan interim’s Head Coach Jason Gillispie told this publication earlier.

“They are the three of the greatest bowlers to have ever played for Australia and we are blessed to have three of them in one side at the same time, along with Nathan Lyon. This is a pretty special group of Australian cricketers and all these will go down as absolute legends of the game all around the world. We have all been very fortunate to watch them play,” Gillispie added.

However, despite them being arguably the best of this generation the attack could not win a bilateral Test series against India in home conditions. “In the last few series, India have had the upper hand, they’ve played some good cricket, they’ve been flamboyant at times and they’ve been able to dig in at times … so I’m intrigued to see how Australia fight back, said Vaughan.
