India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana recorded the highest ODI score by an Indian woman at home after slamming her sixth ton against South Africa at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday.
Opting to bat first in the opening ODI of the three-match series, Mandhana battled a top-order wobble as India were reduced to 99 for five. The left-hander reached her half-century in 61 balls and doubled up in 116 balls as India crossed the 200-run mark. Mandhana also crossed her
The hundred also marked the first ODI ton by an Indian batter at the venue and Mandhana’s first at home. Mandhana overtook Mithali Raj’s 109 against West Indies in 2011 to record the highest ODI score by an Indian woman at home. She holed out on 117 off 121 deliveries against Masabata Klaas in the 47th over after an innings laced with 12 fours and a six.

Mandhana also went past 7000 runs across formats, becoming only the second Indian woman after the record run-getter Raj to cross the landmark. The 27-year-old also overtook captain Harmanpreet Kaur to become the second-highest ODI century-maker among Indian women and is one short of levelling Raj at seven hundreds.
India finished on 265 for eight in 50 overs with Pooja Vastrakar’s unbeaten 31 propelling them to a par total. It is also India’s second-highest total against the Proteas at home.
