Jharkhand Richest Candidate Has Assets Worth Rs 402 Crore, Hemant Soren In Top-10 Richest List


The election for the second phase of polling in Jharkhand assembly elections will be held in 38 constituencies on November 20. A total of 528 candidates have filed their nominations in the 38 seats in Jharkhand. 

In the first phase of voting in 43 assembly seats out of 81, the state recorded 64.86 per cent turnout, according to the Election Commission. 

An assessment of the Association for Democratic Reforms showed that 127 out of the 522 candidates analysed were crorepatis. 

Among the major parties 23 candidates from BJP, 18 from JMM, 10 from Congress, 5 from AJSU Party, 4 from BSP and 2 from RJD have declared assets valued more than Rs 1 crore. The average of assets per candidate contesting the second phase of Jharkhand polls was Rs 2.53 Crore, the report said.

The report stated that Aquil Akhtar of the Samajwadi Party is the richest candidate in the second phase of polling in Jharkhand with a total asset of Rs 402.9 crore. Akhtar, who is contesting from Pakur, had movable assets of Rs 99 lakh and immovable assets worth Rs 402 crore.

Meanwhile, Niranjan Rai, who is an Independent candidate, comes next with Rs 137 crore. Mohammad Danish of the Aazad Samaj Party comes third with Rs 32 crore.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren is also in the list of the top 10 candidates with highest assets. Soren has total assets worth Rs 25 crore, including immovable assets worth Rs Rs 16.46 crore.

The candidates with the least assets is Independent candidate Rajeshwar Mahto from the Silli constituency whose declared asset is Rs 100. 

Meanwhile, 148 out of the 522 candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves. 122 candidates have declared serious criminal cases against them. Among the major parties, 14 out of 32 candidates analysed from BJP, 8 out of 24 candidates analysed from BSP, 5 out of 20 candidates analysed from JMM, 5 out of 12 candidates analysed from Congress, 4 out of 6 candidates analysed from AJSU Party and 2 out of 2 candidates analysed from RJD have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits, the report said.
