On Sunday evening, a massive fire broke out at the Mahakumbh pandal near the Shastriya Bridge, Sector 19, in Prayagraj. The fire was caused by a small gas cylinder explosion at the Geeta Press camp. The fire quickly spread, creating panic in the Mela area, especially in the Tent City. However, the quick response of fire fighters and security personnel helped control the situation within 22 minutes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were closely monitoring the situation. PM Modi called CM Yogi to get updates on the fire. CM Yogi, who had just visited the Mahakumbh site a short while earlier, immediately directed officials to act quickly. He also visited the site himself and made sure that fire trucks had clear access by temporarily halting his own vehicles. Due to the incident that occurred at the Maha Kumbh, political flames have now flared up. Akhilesh Yadav posted about the incident on X, and Congress leaders have also raised questions about the arrangements at the Maha Kumbh.
