Mahua Moitra Defeats BJP’s Amrita Roy In Resounding Victory In Krishnanagar

Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Mahua Moitra of Trinamool Congress (TMC) has won from Krishnanagar constituency, West Bengal. Moitra defeated her BJP rival Amrita Roy. TMC’s Lok Sabha candidate from Krishnanagar, Moitra thanked the voters of Krishnanagar after claiming victory. It is important to note that Moitra was fielded again by the TMC and it became a highly anticipated contest as it became a battle between the former MP and BJP’s candidate ‘Rajmata of the Rajbari’ Amrita Roy.

Moitra posted from her official X, formerly Twitter handle: “Thank you Krishnanagar, thank you @mamataofficialt hank you INDIA.”

The TMC MP clinched 6,24,711 votes and was leading by an significant margin of 57,083 votes over her nearest BJP rival Amrita Roy, who managed to bag 5,67,628 votes, according to news agency PTI.

Moitra got global acclaim, on the back of her impassioned speeches in Parliament and despite her newcomer status and also established her as a formidable voice of dissent against the ruling establishment. However, her tenure has not been without its share of controversies and challenges. Moitra’s outspoken nature and willingness to challenge the status quo have often put her at odds with her own party leadership, the PTI report added.

As Moitra returns to Parliament with a resounding mandate, she does so with a renewed sense of purpose and determination.

Since 2016, Moitra was the MLA of Karimpur assembly constituency and is the ex-TMC district president. Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha last year following a controversial cash-for-query case. The event was brief setback in her political journey. However, on Tuesday, she clinched a landslide victory in Krishnanager constituency.

Notably, Bengal has 42 Lok Sabha seats and Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress has won nine more seats since 2019 while BJP has lost eight seats in Bengal.
