Michael Vaughan accuses ICC of favouring India: ‘At World Cup, should be little bit fairer to other teams’

Former England captain Michael Vaughan criticized the ICC’s scheduling of the World Cup matches and accused it for favouring India over the other teams in the tournament.

“Literally, it’s their tournament. They get to play whenever they want. They get to know exactly where their semifinal will be. They play every single game in the morning so people can watch them at night in India on TV. I get that. I get that money is a big play in the world of cricket. And I get that in bilateral series but you would think that when you get to a World Cup, the ICC should be a little bit fairer to every body. It shouldn’t be just India just because they bring a few quid in” Vaughan said in the Club Prairie Fire podcast.

“As I said, bilaterals, I completely understand it, I completely get it. But when you get to a World Cup, there cannot be any kind of a sympathy or any kind of sway towards one team in the tournament. And this tournament is purely set up for India, simple as that,” he added.

Vaughan had also tweeted his displeasure during the Afghanistan vs South Africa semifinal match, saying, “Surely this Semi should have been the Guyana one .. but because the whole event is geared towards India it’s so unfair on others ..”

Meanwhile, India will take on England in the 2nd semifinal at Guyana on Thursday and if weather forecast for the venue is to be believed, there is a chance of rain interrupting the match.

If there is a tie, and weather conditions prevent the Super Over from being completed, or if the match is abandoned due to weather or for whatever reason the IND vs ENG game is a no result, then the team that finished first in its Second Round Group (Super 8) will progress to the Final.

This means, if the IND vs ENG game is a no result, India will progress to the T20 World Cup final.
