Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated Donald Trump on his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States, marking the Republican leader’s return to power for a second term.
“Congratulations my dear friend President @realDonaldTrump on your historic inauguration as the 47th President of the United States! I look forward to working closely together once again, to benefit both our countries, and to shape a better future for the world. Best wishes for a successful term ahead!” Modi posted on X.

Earlier, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who attended the swearing-in ceremony in Washington DC as Modi’s special envoy, expressed his privilege in representing India at the event.
“Privileged to represent India as External Affairs Minister and Special Envoy of PM at the Swearing-In Ceremony of the 47th President of the United States of America today in Washington DC,” Jaishankar wrote on X. He also attended the Inauguration Day Prayer Service at St John’s Church earlier in the morning.
Trump, 78, took the presidential oath indoors under the Capitol rotunda instead of the initially planned outdoor venue due to frigid temperatures in Washington DC.
