Atishi Seeks Security In Kalkaji, Alleges Bidhuri’s Nephew & BJP Workers Threatening AAP Volunteers

Delhi Election 2025: Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from Kalkaji constituency, Atishi, on Tuesday wrote to the Returning Officer of Kalkaji Assembly Constituency, alleging that Ramesh Bidhuri’s nephew, BJP candidate from the seat, along with BJP workers, has been intimidating and threatening AAP volunteers in the Govindpuri area.

In her letter, dated January 21, Atishi detailed an alleged incident of intimidation that took place on January 20 in Gali No. 1, Govindpuri, where AAP volunteers, including Rekha Bassi, Sanjay Gupta, Mani Mamta, Aradhna, Sunita Pandey, Sher Singh, and Hari Shankar Gupta, were verbally and physically threatened by BJP workers.

According to the letter, BJP members, including Kunal Bhardwaj, Manish, and Rishabh Bidhuri, the nephew of BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri, allegedly threatened Sanjay Gupta and others, hurling abuses, grabbing him by the collar, and issuing threats of physical harm. Atishi claimed that specific threats included statements such as, “Ghar baith jao, haath pair toot jaayenge” (Stay at home, or your hands and legs will be broken) and “Yeh hamara ghar ka election hai” (This is our family’s election).

Atishi further alleged that a similar incident occurred three to four days earlier, where BJP workers slapped an AAP worker engaged in door-to-door campaigning. She also accused BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri of making “abusive and derogatory” remarks about her during the election campaign.

“Despite being reported in the media, no action has been taken against him. This has given a signal that misbehaviour by BJP leaders and workers will go unpunished. This is the reason why this violence and intimidation has started. These BJP workers have been openly threatening AAP volunteers without any fear,” Atishi wrote in her letter.

Expressing concern over the situation, she urged the Returning Officer to take “immediate action” against the BJP workers involved and to deploy security forces across the Kalkaji constituency to ensure the safety of AAP volunteers. Atishi warned that such incidents of violence posed a threat to free and fair elections in the constituency.

The 70-member Delhi Assembly is set to go to polls on February 5, with the results scheduled to be declared on February 8.
