A three-year-old boy died after he accidentally fell from the first floor of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) facility on Wednesday. The family had traveled from Chinna Chow village in Kadapa district to visit the deity with their darshan scheduled for Thursday evening.
The boy, playing with his brother, suddenly slipped through the staircase grill at Padmanabha Nilayam near verandah number three around 3:30 pm.
“The boy accidentally fell down while playing with his brother. They came with their parents for darshan (visiting the deity),” the official told PTI.
A case has been registered and an investigation into the incident is underway.
The incident comes after a fire erupted in the laddu prasadam distribution area at the Tirumala Tirupati Temple in Andhra Pradesh. According to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Joint Executive Officer Venkaiah Chowdary, the fire originated at counter number 47 due to a short circuit in the UPS system connected to a computer.
Early this month, six people lost their lives and at least 40 others sustained injuries in a stampede at Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Tirumala Hills on Wednesday. The incident took place during the distribution of tokens for Vaikunta Dwara Darshan. The stampede occurred as a large crowd of devotees surged forward in a rush to collect the tokens.
